Board asks staff and Parks & Rec advisory committee to recommend revised charter and returns report within 90 days

The Board of Commissioners instructed staff to compile a list and scope descriptions of all county advisory boards and asked the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee specifically to review its purpose and recommend any charter changes.

Vice Chair Brian Helms said the Parks and Rec Advisory Committee’s original role — evaluating grant applications and advising on parks master planning — has evolved and the committee has lacked consistent work since the pandemic. Parks staff and commissioners said the panel could be reoriented toward community engagement, event programming and making better use of facilities such as the Cane Creek amphitheater and the Simpson Event Center.

Commissioner Helms made a motion directing staff to bring back information on the existing charges for all advisory boards and committees and to solicit feedback from the Parks & Rec Advisory Committee and staff on potential scope changes; the board set a 90‑day target for a report back. The motion was recorded and commissioners agreed to the timeline. Staff said they would compile the committee list, the current statutory/charter language where applicable and the Parks & Rec committee’s feedback for consideration at a future meeting.
