Planning director resigns; new county civil attorney introduces himself at P&Z meeting

The Cochise County Planning and Zoning Commission received a staff update noting that Planning Director Cocksworth resigned last week and that Bert Whitehead has joined the county as the civil attorney. Whitehead introduced himself to the commission and described family ties to the Bisbee area.
Planning staff also reported two recent items before the Cochise County Board of Supervisors: the approval of a truck-stop project on adjacent properties, and the tabling of a Paul Prince downzoning and sun-site matter until July 22. Staff said the board directed staff and the commission to bring forward items for consideration of a tax amendment and that a work session on that topic would be held in May. Staff also noted the commission’s May meeting will include three special-use dockets and a combined rezoning and comprehensive-plan amendment item.
Bert Whitehead, who identified himself as the county’s civil attorney, said he is a fourth-generation namesake (Bert Whitehead IV) with family history in the area and that he was glad to be serving in the civil attorney’s office. No formal action was taken on staffing matters during the meeting.
