Barrera said 1 to Another has “been doing this now for about 19 years” and reported the organization served “3,800 adults and 1,500 Children and 275 young adults” in the last year. She said the group provides parenting classes, one-on-one support, behavior interventions, skill-building and a young-adult program focused on life and job skills. Barrera said the program currently runs largely on volunteers (about 75–80), and that a volunteer training class of 42 people was underway.
Barrera told the council United Way began helping the organization transition toward some paid staff last June to support long-term stability. She also described annual community events: a summer barbecue serving about 250 families and a winter holiday meal for roughly 200 families that provides meals and gifts to low-income households.
Councilor McLeod thanked Barrera for her service and said she had attended a class. Barrera said she would leave informational materials with the council for referral purposes.
