City presents community budget-forum and survey feedback; parks and infrastructure top priorities

City staff summarized results from three community budget forums and an online survey, reporting that residents most frequently prioritized park infrastructure improvements, maintenance and beautification, as well as street paving, sidewalk repairs and lighting.
The city held three in-person forums (senior center, Reggie Rodriguez Park and Quiet Cannon) and collected 52 comment-board submissions across the sessions; 75 additional responses were received via the online community budget survey. Staff compiled and categorized comments and provided department directors with the results for budgeting and capital planning.
Director Salazar (presenter) told council the largest category of feedback (about 31% of comments) was park infrastructure and that the comments were consistent across the in-person forums and the online survey. Staff also noted community requests for increased code enforcement, additional recreational spaces and targeted economic development in downtown corridors.
Staff said the input will inform department budget requests and that further budget presentations would follow in May and June. Council members supported continuing community budget forums as a regular part of the budget process and asked staff to consider the timing of federal community funding requests already submitted for park restroom improvements.
