The Agoura Hills City Council approved a letter endorsing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s efforts to recruit and retain deputies, asking county supervisors to maintain funding for training and academy capacity.
City Manager Nathan Hamburger said the request originated with the Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) and regional contract cities. The department seeks funding to recruit roughly 1,100 additional deputies and to ensure pay and training keep pace with other public-safety agencies, officials said.
Mayor Pro Tem Jeremy Wolf and other council members framed the letter as support for staffing levels at the Lost Hills Sheriff Station and a way to reduce mandatory overtime and fatigue among current deputies. "To ensure that our region is getting the right services and the correct level of service, it's important that they stay fully staffed," Wolf said.
Council member Anderson said she supports deputies but, because of her county role, chose to abstain from the formal vote. The motion to approve the letter passed on a roll call vote of four in favor and one abstention.
Council members said the letter will be presented to the local Council of Governments (COG) for consideration and that Mayor Sylvester will represent the city at upcoming COG discussions. Staff said Captain Jennifer (Lost Hills Station) and ALADS representatives have communicated support for the request and that the city will forward its direction to county supervisors and regional partners.
