Career Services reports placement success and summer youth plans; longtime staffer recovering from surgery

Diane Kelly, director of Career Services and Employment, told the Cherokee Nation Executive and Finance Committee on March 27 that her office has seen job placements from its ARPA-funded programs and is preparing summer youth program materials for the website.
Kelly described a recent placement: “Marcus Vega, originally from Sequoyah County, he got a job with Hastings,” she said, and credited a counselor, Ashley Myers, as part of the placement. Kelly said the department met recently with human-resources directors and that some ARPA participants previously in the program are being hired into other positions.
Kelly said the summer youth program was approved for the website and that flyers would follow; she identified two staff members—Michelle Arris and Jackie England—who will run application approvals for the summer program while another staffer, George Roach, remains out of the office undergoing recovery from major heart surgery. “George will be out for most of the summer,” she said, and added that Roach is home and receiving rehabilitation.
Kelly also reported continued grant submissions and coordination with other staff and offices, saying they met with staff at ChOTA and that staffers including Anna Knight, Rhonda Clemons and Matt Lamont are working on grant applications.
The committee offered brief praise for the placement story but did not record further questions or directives; the Career Services update was entered as information.
