Tax commission reports motor vehicle revenue up, cigarette and tobacco receipts down amid vape sales

Swepston said motor vehicle-related revenue was "about 6.92% ahead" compared with the same period the prior year. She reported that receipts from cigarette and tobacco products were down about "9.71%," attributing much of that decline to the growing popularity of vaping products and nicotine packets.
Committee members thanked tax commission staff for their work; one councilor noted concern about changes to the Nations compact that could affect future school funding events but did not request any formal action during the meeting.
No specific dollar totals, proposed rate changes or budget adjustments were proposed during the update; Swepston said she had provided a written report and would answer questions if needed.
