County housing purchase approved The board approved, on second reading, an ordinance authorizing purchase of Unit A at 414 Pacific Avenue, an Alpine Grove condominium in Aspen (two-bedroom unit). County housing staff said the unit will be added to the countys employee and community housing portfolio to ease local recruitment and reduce employee commutes. The county reported it obtained an appraisal and a building inspection; the appraisal came in slightly above the purchase price and inspectors flagged a radon-mitigation item that will be addressed during closing. The purchase price and closing costs were authorized in the ordinance voted by the commissioners.
Healthy Rivers grant support The board also approved two resolutions to support pending grant applications and potential acceptance of funds if awarded: - A resolution supporting a Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) Water Supply Reserve Fund grant application for Phase 2 of the Lincoln Creek Watershed Enhancement Project. Commissioners and staff said mineralization and sediment issues remain a water-quality concern in Lincoln Creek and that this work supports on-the-ground mitigation and monitoring efforts. The board approved the resolution on first reading and set the item for future public hearing on April 23. - A resolution supporting a Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Fishing is Fun grant application for streamside improvements at the Healthy Rivers Whitewater Park. Staff said proposals to finish seating, shade and riparian plantings will improve habitat and recreation; the county also reported that contractor bids came back higher than expected and the grant would supplement local funds. The board approved the resolution to support the grant application and set the item for the next public hearing cycle.
Other actions and context County staff thanked outside grant writers and partners and said awards are expected in April for the CWCB application and CPW process. Commissioners emphasized the projects role in protecting in-channel diversion water rights and river recreation.
