William Allen White construction near complete; district expects school turnover in May

The Board received a construction update on William Allen White from McCallen Gordon project representative Eric Holsey, who said the project is essentially complete with only minor punch‑list and site cleanup remaining.
"There's really not a whole lot to report because we're pretty much officially done minus some miscellaneous cleanup stuff," Holsey told the board, adding the school is expected to be turned over to the district in May. Holsey highlighted recent work including repurposing the old kitchen into storage and completing a mothers' room with some window infill for privacy, as well as reroofing done during spring break to minimize classroom disturbance.
Holsey said the team is finishing grading and topsoil replacement in areas used for laydown and will seed the disturbed areas once concrete repairs and cleanup are finished. He said the contractor will return in May with a full project recap and to finalize outstanding invoices and any remaining alternates.
Board members asked about final funds and potential leftover dollars; Holsey and district staff said they are coordinating with financial advisors (Piper Jaffray) to determine whether there will be surplus funds to return to the district or reallocate.
No action was required; the update was informational. Holsey told the board he planned to return in May with a final recap.
