East Meadow honors Terrific Kids and winter athletes; students, coaches recognized

The East Meadow Union Free School District recognized student achievements in character development and winter athletics during the board meeting.
Melody Schiller, president of the Kiwanis Club of East Meadow, described the Terrific Kids program as “a character building program that recognizes students for special achievements that may otherwise go unnoticed,” and explained the acronym Terrific as thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive and capable. The board and administrators presented awards to dozens of Woodland and Clark Middle School students for monthly Terrific Kids recognition.
The district also held an athletic awards presentation. The athletics presenter thanked the board, superintendent and athletic directors and noted several team accomplishments: East Meadow boys and girls indoor track teams won conference championships (the boys’ program captured its 10th title in 12 years; the girls’ team won its fourth straight), boys and girls bowling both won conference championships, and Clark High School cheer placed eighth nationally.
Individual student honors included multiple all‑county and all‑state recognitions. Coaches and presenters singled out notable seasons: Justin Gonzales, a Clark wrestler who was described as a four‑time all‑county selection and two‑time state qualifier with 138 varsity wins; Caitlin Coffey of East Meadow was recognized for school records in the weight throw and shot put and for earning All‑State and All‑Federation honors; Amanda Morris was cited as an all‑county, county champion and all‑state bowler.
Superintendent Rosner and board members congratulated students, coaches, parents and staff for the season and for community support of the programs. The meeting included picture opportunities and certificates for the county championship teams.
Ending: the board paused regular business to honor student achievements and encouraged community attendance at upcoming school and PTA events that support students and extracurricular programs.
