District seeks architectural and engineering bids for Central High School and other projects; trustees ask for cost-estimate context

District staff presented procurement items tied to ongoing capital work funded through the bond program, including a bathroom remodel at Central High School and architectural/engineering services for HVAC and structural repairs.

Simmons (operations/finance) said Pangier Corporation was the only bidder for Central’s restroom remodel and recommended moving forward with Pangier; the board discussed the importance of knowing an engineer’s estimate to judge whether a single bid is within budget. Trustee Harris (commenting) recommended including an engineer’s estimate on the public agenda so the board can determine if a sole bid is competitive or whether to rebid.

Separately, the board reviewed architectural/engineering bids for work at Central and Carrie Gosch. Valdez Architectural/Engineering was recommended to oversee the Central air-handler/HVAC project with an engineering fee cited in the agenda materials; Hutton and Hutton and Whiteman Engineering presented proposals for structural and HVAC assessments across district buildings. Whiteman described a multi‑building assessment approach to create a five‑ to ten‑year capital plan that district leaders can use to prioritize future projects.

Trustees asked about scope priorities (pool, gym egress, ADA access, roof and stairwell repairs) and about sequencing repairs to preserve the district’s functioning pool at Central. Staff said some projects address immediate operational needs (pool and structure repairs) while other assessments will feed the longer-term capital plan. Vendors were present and staff said they would correct administrative references on bid documents before the regular meeting.

No final contract award beyond recommended vendors was completed during the work session; items were slated for the regular meeting consent agenda with documentation to follow.
