Benton County Planning Commission reelects chair and vice chair; approves minutes with one abstention

At its Jan. 2 virtual meeting the Benton County Planning Commission reappointed its chair and vice chair and approved past meeting minutes; Commissioner John Wilson abstained on approval of the July 18, 2023 minutes because he was not yet on the commission.
Nick, chair of the Benton County Planning Commission, was reelected chair and Greg Haman was elected vice chair during the commission’s Jan. 2 remote meeting, and the commission approved several sets of minutes, with one abstention noted.
The commission opened nominations for chair; Greg Haman nominated Nick for a new term and Catherine Biscoe seconded the nomination. The commission voted by show of hands; Chair Nick called the motion passed. Andrew Struthers nominated Greg Haman for vice chair; the nomination was seconded and approved by the commission.
The commission then considered minutes from multiple meetings. Andrew moved to approve the July 18, 2023 minutes; that motion was seconded and approved with Commissioner John Wilson abstaining because, as he noted, “I was not on the planning commission board for that meeting.” Minutes for Aug. 29, Sept. 19 and other listed sessions were approved without objection.
No ordinances or policy changes were decided as part of these procedural votes; commissioners discussed upcoming substantive agenda topics after handling the elections and minutes.
The administrative actions clear the way for the commission’s 2024 work program, which staff described in detail later in the meeting.
