The City Council on April 8 authorized the city manager to enter into a contract with Bob Murray & Associates to conduct the executive recruitment for the public works director position following the announced retirement of the current director effective May 30, 2025.
Allison Garcia, the city’s human resources director, told the council that after 27 years the current public works director is retiring and the city recommended contracting an executive search firm to expand candidate outreach, provide targeted executive hiring expertise and allow city staff to focus on operations during recruitment. Staff evaluated multiple firms and recommended Bob Murray & Associates based on public-sector experience and cost.
Garcia said the contract would fall within the city manager’s approval authority but was presented to council for transparency; the firm will prepare a recruitment brochure, conduct targeted outreach, evaluate candidates, perform background/reference checks, and coordinate community and professional interview panels. The council adopted Resolution No. 11,355 authorizing the city manager to execute the agreement.
Councilmembers expressed appreciation for the director’s long service and supported engaging an experienced search firm to ensure continuity for a key operational department.
