Folsom issues April proclamations for Earth Day, Arbor Day, National Library Week and Telecommunicators Week

The Folsom City Council presented four proclamations on April 8 marking Earth Day (to be celebrated citywide April 26), Arbor Day (April 26), National Library Week (April) and National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (April).

Vice Mayor Justin Raethold presented a proclamation recognizing telecommunicators, noting that Folsom dispatchers handled 85,658 telephone calls and created or monitored 60,388 incidents in 2024 and answered over 99% of 9-1-1 calls in 15 seconds or less in 2024. Dispatch staff accepted the proclamation and the vice mayor extended the council’s gratitude for their service.

Councilmember Anna Rorba presented the Earth Day proclamation and staff described the second annual combined Earth Day event at Prospector Park on April 26, including a volunteer morning with more than 300 volunteers for creek cleanups, ladder fuel removal and tree care, followed by a four-hour afternoon festival with educational booths and new participants such as El Dorado National Forest and American River Conservancy. Staff said event details are on the city website under Earth Day.

Councilmember Barbara Leary presented the Arbor Day proclamation and Amy Nunez, the city arborist, described volunteer sapling care along Willow Creek/Humbug Trail in partnership with Sacramento Tree Foundation.

Mayor Sarah Aquino presented the National Library Week proclamation. Bonnie London, a newly appointed member of the library commission, praised the Folsom Public Library’s local control and cited a Library Institute return-on-investment figure claimed in her remarks; the Friends of the Folsom Library thanked donors and volunteers and invited residents to library programming during the week.

The proclamations included event dates and volunteer opportunities; staff asked recipients to collect photos and coordinate with communications staff.
