Board votes to propose nonrenewal of two employee contracts after closed‑session review

Following a closed‑session review, the Spring ISD Board of Trustees on April 8 took motions in open session to propose nonrenewal of two employees' term contracts for the 2024–25 year.
Trustee Hodges moved and Trustee Adams seconded a motion to propose nonrenewal of the 2024–25 Chapter 20 term contract of Sterling Finney effective at the end of the contract term. The motion passed unanimously; the board authorized the superintendent to provide the employee with written notice in accordance with district policy and applicable law.
In a separate motion Trustee Correa moved, seconded by Trustee Newhouse, that the board propose nonrenewal of the 2024–25 Chapter 21 term contract of Tiffany Ann Collins effective at the end of the contract term and authorized the superintendent to provide the employee written notice consistent with district policy and law. The motion carried unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting, Collins addressed the board during agenda participation and said she was on FMLA and provided paperwork documenting medical leave; Collins requested that the board review her records and noted her recent summative evaluation described strengths including adapting instruction and implementing feedback. The board handled the personnel matters in closed session and then voted on the nonrenewal motions in open session. The board directed the superintendent to deliver the required written notices.
