Danvers library reports state aid, program plans and staff changes

Assistant Director Jennifer McGeorge reported a second state aid allotment of $37,205.95, program plans including book sale and summer events, new museum passes, community-board and art-show policies in development, and several staff promotions and hires.
Assistant Director Jennifer McGeorge told the Town of Danvers Library Trustees that the library received the second half of its state aid, is scheduling community programs, and will post several staff vacancies.
McGeorge said the second half of state aid arrived, "totaling this half is $37,205.95." She reported the library's recent budget presentation to the select board and said a finance-committee presentation is scheduled for the week of April 14, with an exact time pending.
On programs and outreach, McGeorge said the Friends group is planning a children's concert for the summer series at Endicott Park, added that the Friends are sponsoring museum passes (adding the Harvard museums and the Trustees of Reservations), and announced a book sale scheduled for June 10–14 with donations accepted the week of June 2. She said two programs scheduled for Massachusetts Space Week (week of April 21) were canceled and staff are working to replace them; the Gloucester-area amateur astronomy group that brought telescopes last year has not been confirmed for this year.
The children's department is working with the American Society of Magicians on a magic show and workshop on April 24. McGeorge said the New England Homes for the Deaf made a site visit in March with four residents and aides to learn library services; that is now planned as a monthly event. She said a grant for deaf and hard-of-hearing programming funds monthly sign-language story time and three events with ASL interpretation; more adult events are in development.
McGeorge reported staffing changes: Chelsea Shepherd will be promoted to head of teen services beginning in May; Megan Berger was hired as a new senior page to replace Jan Kent; Lorraine Jukes moved to assistant head of circulation and the associated assistant librarian position and a 10-hour assistant librarian position will be posted this month. Noel (the director) will attend the Massachusetts Library Association conference May 19–20 and will interview Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell as part of that conference.
On policy work, Jillian Parsons (head of outreach services) and Drew Meager (head of circulation) are drafting a community-board policy to clarify what gets posted in the front hall; Noelle said a vote is not needed now and the policy will be added to a future packet. McGeorge also said the standing-room art-show schedule is booked through the year and that Noelle expects to bring a policy about use of that space to the June meeting.
A proposal from Kelly Tashara of Veteran Services to place an outdoor flag-disposal box on library grounds was raised; the trustees asked that more details be provided at a future meeting.
McGeorge reminded the public that hires must be processed through town human resources and not by trustees directly.
