Board approves Independence School District 2025 summer school schedule; enrollment about halfway

The Independence School District board approved the district’s 2025 summer school program. Administrators said the program will run Tuesday through Friday from May 28 to June 27, and the district will not operate on Juneteenth (June 19).
Summer school sites will include multiple elementary schools—Castle Park, Santa Fe, Blackburn, Glendale, Luff, Mallinson, Ott, Spring Branch and Sycamore Hill—along with Bridger Middle School, Pioneer Ridge Middle School, Truman High School and Independence Academy. The board emphasized that Independence’s program is one of the state’s larger summer offerings.
In response to a board question about enrollment, an administrator reported 2,056 students already enrolled, which the board noted is roughly halfway toward last year’s total of 4,670 enrollments. The motion to approve the summer program passed by voice vote.
Administrators said the program schedule aligned with the district’s earlier school‑year end date (May 23) and that the district did not need to delay summer school start because of the calendar.
