Summary
Mayor Troy Walker promoted the Golden Spoke ride for Bike Month with multiple route options (up to 53 miles) and local start points; UTA transit passes and a $10 food voucher will be provided to registrants.
Mayor Troy Walker, chair of the Active Transportation Committee, used the chair report to promote the Golden Spoke bike ride on Saturday, May 10, as a Bike Month event for committee members and the public.
Walker said the full Golden Spoke route will be 53 miles from Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City along the Jordan River Trail to the Provo River Delta, with multiple shorter options and intermediate starting points. He described a Draper-focused 22-mile loop that will use a car-free trail alignment and noted riders starting or finishing on FrontRunner commuter rail will receive a transit pass as part of registration.
Walker said the event is free with required registration, that participants will receive a $10 voucher for food and drink at the end of the ride and that water and snacks will be available at intermediate stops. Committee members and staff offered to share promotional materials; WFRC staff said they can provide social media content for communities along the route.
The chair encouraged committee members and municipal partners to publicize local mayor's rides and community events for Bike Month, and reminded attendees that e-bikes are allowed on the Golden Spoke route.
The committee noted the ride offers flexible participation: riders may join at any point on the route and use FrontRunner to return if desired.
