The Tuttle City Council on Monday approved construction work to support a new columbarium at Fairview Cemetery, authorizing a concrete pad and sidewalk and moving $10,000 in cemetery fund balance into a capital outlay line to cover the work.
Staff said the city received a single quote from Rush Services for the concrete pad and associated work and asked the council to approve a not-to-exceed amount of $15,500 to provide flexibility for an aesthetically curved sidewalk rather than a straight path from the chapel. Staff explained the pad includes deeper piers to prevent future settling given variable soils in the cemetery area.
Council members questioned cost and construction detail; staff replied that the pad is intentionally overbuilt to avoid a tilted installation in the future and that they did not perform a soil sample to save cost, opting instead for a heavier footing.
By roll call the council approved the columbarium footing and sidewalk not to exceed $15,500 (Dixon yes, Hughes yes, Watson yes, Mayor McLeroy yes). The council also approved budget amendment 2025-12 to move $10,000 from the cemetery fund balance to cemetery capital improvement project funds to pay for the pad and related sidewalk work (same roll-call result).
The columbarium placement and pad specification were included in the meeting packet; staff said manufacturer specifications for the unit and footing were provided to the council for review.
