Residents raise affirmative-action complaint, facility-use and budget questions; district confirms Attorney General received complaint

Public comment included two substantive speakers.

Patricia Waiters identified herself as an employee, resident and parent and presented an affirmative-action packet in the public portion of the meeting. Waiters raised questions about facility approvals, potential conflicts of interest involving the Hoboken Public Education Foundation and personnel and bargaining matters. The board president and counsel responded that the district cannot censor public comment and that a complaint filed with the New Jersey Attorney General's Office had been received by the district; counsel said the district had not received further direction and was awaiting any action from the state.

Manuel Rivera Solis (identified as a Hoboken resident) asked whether the district posts information about contagious-disease mitigation (for example, measles) and whether the district has a timetable for removing scaffolding and completing masonry repairs on a district building. He also asked whether the budget advertisement on April 30 would make full budget details available to the public and whether a proposed lease for renting space would appear in the 2026–27 year. District officials replied that the budget ad (April 30) will include the budget in print and that a full presentation and a question period will be available at the May 6 hearing; they said the proposed lease was not signed and would not be in effect until the 2026–27 school year if approved.

Board counsel and administration instructed that personnel and union disputes are matters for the relevant unions and, when filed with the Attorney General, will be handled through that office’s process rather than by the board during public comment.
