Governance committee chair Miss Cadematore (committee representative) reported the committee reviewed routine personnel items and highlighted a confirmed HAB report related to incidents after the Section 2 Group 2 varsity basketball finals on March 8. The report said the incidents included racist slurs directed at Hoboken players as they left Madison High School and racially charged social-media posts believed to be from Madison students; some posts were screenshot and an HAB incident was confirmed. The district has requested an apology from the Madison School District and, as of the meeting, had received no response, the committee said.
The governance report also noted policy item 5111a (access to education, student privacy and immigration enforcement) was on the agenda for a second reading. The committee discussed two sidebar agreements: one addressing coaching positions tied to middle-school athletics growth and another to create an annual program to recruit and compensate cohorts of paraprofessionals as registered behavior technicians (RBTs) that would replace a previously agreed ABA differential in the HSEA contract. The committee recommended the agenda items for board approval.
The governance items were placed on the consent agenda; the HAB matter was raised as an item of concern and the district reported that screenshots and social-media posts were included in the confirmed incident report.
