Curriculum committee recommends $10,000 computer science expansion award, dyslexia screenings and return of cursive instruction

Leslie Norwood, speaking for the curriculum committee, said the committee met April 3 and recommended four curriculum agenda items for approval: a Hoboken Middle School academic game-show assembly; acceptance of a Project Lead The Way computer science expansion award for $10,000; approval of various field trips; and approval of off-site PTO events.
Norwood said district reading specialists have conducted dyslexia screenings and identified roughly 29 K–8 students for screening based on DRA or other literacy measures; those students may be referred to intervention and referral services or the child study team if flagged. She added 13 district staff continue Google educator certification training and that kindergarten teachers are starting to integrate financial literacy into social studies. The Spanish dual-language program lottery was scheduled for April 9.
Norwood also said cursive instruction will return to the curriculum in the 2025–26 school year for grades 2–8.
The committee recommended all items for board approval; the meeting record shows those items on the consent agenda.
