Mayor Eric Johnson on April 9 proclaimed April 12, 2025, Teen Driver Safety Awareness Day in Dallas, citing federal and local data on teen crash risks. The proclamation referenced higher crash risk for drivers ages 16–17, trends in distracted driving and the approaching "100 deadliest days" between Memorial Day and Labor Day when teen driver fatal crashes increase.
Representatives from AAA Texas and the Dallas judiciary briefed the council on a free workshop for young drivers scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Central Library in downtown Dallas. Daniel Armbruster of AAA and Judge Robinson (municipal court) thanked the council for support and said the program, in its sixth year, is timed to National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and aims to inform, teach and inspire current and future teen drivers about roadway safety measures including distracted driving, drowsy driving, speeding, seatbelt use and impairment.
Council members, including Chairwoman Mendelson, praised the event and noted the importance of parental example in driving behavior. The proclamation and remarks were presented during the meeting's recognition portion and included a brief photo opportunity.
