The Bountiful City Council on April 8 approved a set of annual traffic signal maintenance projects that include larger controller-and-cabinet upgrades at Pages Lane and 200 West and at Orchard Drive and 2200 South.
City Engineer Lloyd Cheney explained the two signals still run on their original controllers and cabinets and are more than 30 years old. Staff said the street department budget includes funding for the work and that the city can purchase materials using Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) contract pricing, avoiding a separate procurement. The labor portion makes up less than half of the project cost, staff said, and the total for these upgrades is above the city’s informal threshold that requires council approval.
Council members approved the projects so staff can proceed with purchases and construction. Cheney said completing the work ahead of potential material-cost increases was a consideration, and staff will manage the upgrades in cooperation with engineering and the power department.
