Hanover Area School District OKs track renovation contract, approves financial and personnel packages and honors student athletes

The Hanover Area School District Board of Education on April 8 approved a contract with Keystone Sports Construction to renovate the district's track and field complex at 1600 Sansone Parkway in Hanover Township, approved a package of financial and personnel recommendations and recognized student-athlete and academic achievements.

The action to hire Keystone Sports Construction was taken as part of the board's general recommendations and received a roll-call vote during the board's publicly convened meeting after an executive session. Board President read a notice under the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act saying the board had met in executive session earlier to discuss employee relations, labor negotiations and threatened or actual litigation. The superintendent's report and the contract award were presented during the public meeting.

Board members discussed schedule and scope details for the track project during public comment. The superintendent said the company indicated it could begin work promptly and "it would be done by August," adding that the work will include compaction and building a new subsurface before resurfacing. The board and staff cautioned that the inner field used for soccer and field hockey will likely be stripped down during the subsurface work and that practice scheduling and field protection are part of the contractor's scope to avoid damage to turf and grass areas.
