Committee advances bill allowing landlords to prioritize applicants who accept housing vouchers

Johnson noted that HACLA currently issues tens of thousands of vouchers and that many participants cannot identify a rental unit; he warned that unused vouchers represent wasted federal assistance.
Supporters including AARP California, the Public Interest Law Project and other housing advocates spoke in favor; no opposition witnesses were recorded in the hearing excerpt.
