Union asks for clearer safety language, easier access to incident forms and pre‑return meetings after suspensions

The association presented a proposal aimed at improving student and staff safety processes and ensuring teachers can access the right forms when incidents occur.

Union negotiators said several teachers do not know how to find the district form for monetary reimbursement after incidents and that building staff are not consistently keeping the forms accessible. They proposed a centralized portal or a clearly identified place for negotiated‑agreement documents, building handbooks and incident/reimbursement forms so teachers can file when they are ready rather than searching late at night.

Separately, the association proposed language requiring a meeting between administration and affected teachers before a student returns to class following two or more days of in‑school or out‑of‑school suspension (including nonconsecutive days). The purpose, negotiators said, is not to alter disciplinary decisions but to ensure teachers know the plan for the student's reentry and any supports or approaches the teacher should use.

District negotiators noted the district has a discipline committee and that some reentry planning currently occurs when a student has an extended suspension. Negotiators clarified the proposed requirement would apply to two or more days of ISS or OSS (nonconsecutive days included) and would be informational: it would not direct administrators on discipline but would ensure teacher notification and coordination before the student returns.

The parties asked for data and examples of incidents; neither side adopted final contract language during the meeting. The district said it was open to improving access to forms and to discussing reentry coordination practices further.
