Fundraising for the Keizer Gold Star Families Memorial Monument has generated more than $17,000 in recent weeks, board members told the Keizer Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on April 8, and a public groundbreaking is scheduled for April 26.
A board member reported that $12,000 was raised in the previous week, added to an earlier $5,000 gift from the Elks, totaling “over $17,000” in the last 90 days. The meeting noted that bids have been completed, the monument has been ordered and site preparation work is underway.
A board member invited parks board members to attend the April 26 groundbreaking ceremony at 11:00 a.m.; the meeting also referenced an additional, invite-only fundraising event planned for May 31. Organizers credited Rotary, council members and volunteers for recent fundraising success and a city-hosted fundraising event that raised several thousand dollars.
Board members said the project is moving from fundraising into implementation; no formal board vote was required at the advisory-board level. Staff and volunteer leaders will continue coordination of construction, donors and upcoming events.
