Nederland officials urge BVSD to reconsider principal consolidation and fund permanent dean

Town officials from Nederland told the Boulder Valley School District Board of Education on April 8 that the district’s recent decision to place one principal over multiple schools has stirred concern in their small community and that added leadership capacity must be funded to make the model viable.

If that could be funded, we feel like that would be something the community needs.” He described the town as having greater institutional poverty per capita and said the local school is essential to the town’s health.

Trustee Tanya Corvallon said the process used to make the leadership change was “poor” and lacked transparency. She said the decision was communicated to families by late-night email and that internal hiring “was not a competitive process,” leaving parents and staff upset. Corvallon asked the district to reconsider an open process and to participate in an upcoming town hall so parents can ask questions directly.

Board response and context: Board members did not vote on the matter during the April 8 meeting. Several speakers urged BVSD staff to attend local town-hall discussions the community plans to host, and parents asked the district to provide more detailed information about how the consolidated leadership model will be supported at each school.
