Springdale reports robust band and choir participation, invites public to May 9 fine-arts celebration

District staff told the Springdale School Board on April 8 that band and choir participation across the district is strong, with presenters citing about 4,700 students in grades 6-12 participating in band and choir activities this year.

Administration provided a breakdown of all-region and all-state participants by campus. Highlights in the presentation included: - Harbor High School: reported 87 high-school all-region qualifiers and 28 all-state qualifiers. - Springdale High School: reported 51 high-school all-region qualifiers and six all-state qualifiers. - Don Tyson School of Innovation (K-12): reported 46 junior-high all-region qualifiers, 49 high-school all-region qualifiers and 17 all-state qualifiers. - Central Junior High: reported 53 junior-high all-region qualifiers. - Lakeside Junior High: reported 28 all-region qualifiers and selection as a prestigious honor band at the Arkansas All-State Conference (performance was affected by weather). - Southwest Junior High and George Junior High also reported strong representation in region ensembles.

Presenters noted a partnership with the Smeeding Foundation, which donated $24,000 last year to fund adjunct tutors for private lessons; administration said the district has applied for double funding this year to broaden that support. The presenters also highlighted consistently high composite scores on marching-band and choral performance assessments and noted regional and national recognitions for district ensembles.

The district invited the public to a fine-arts celebration on Friday, May 9, where band and choir scholarship recipients and program participants will be recognized.
