Plainview announces citywide AMI smart‑meter installation; contractors to identify themselves and leave door hangers

City of Plainview communications announced a planned conversion to advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) that contractors Ameresco and Pedal Valve Incorporated will install beginning January 2024.
The notice said contractors will remove existing residential and commercial meters and replace them with AMI meters. Installers will operate mainly Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with some Saturdays as needed. Contractors will display company logos on uniforms and vehicles and will give a courtesy knock before work.
If a resident answers the door, the contractor will explain the process and ask that water not be used for about 30 minutes during installation. Contractors will not enter homes. If no one answers, crews will check whether water is being used; if water is in use they will leave and return later. When installations are finished the crew will flush accessible outdoor faucets or leave a door hanger with instructions for residents to flush their lines — for example, by running a bathtub on cold water or running an accessible outdoor faucet for about one minute. The notice said residents should avoid using hot water while lines are flushed to prevent air and sediment entering hot water heaters.
The announcement said contractors may be unable to complete installations because of locked gates, inaccessible meters, loose dogs or other access issues; in those cases the contractor will leave a door hanger explaining the reason and how to reschedule.
