The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission on April 8 recommended approval of a rezoning request for one acre at 5905 East Johnson Avenue, moving the property from R-1 single-family medium-density to C-3 general commercial.
Applicant Ang Vu spoke to the commission and said the rezoning would allow future commercial development that he believes aligns with surrounding growth and the city's comprehensive land-use plan. City staff reviewed the application and recommended approval with stipulations including satisfaction of city engineer requirements, compliance with the stormwater drainage manual and floodplain regulations, submission of a final site plan meeting all ordinance requirements before redevelopment, and adherence to any overlay district standards.
No members of the public appeared to comment. A commissioner moved to approve the request and a second followed. The commission voted to forward a favorable recommendation to City Council; staff advised the applicant to place the rezoning on a City Council agenda before Thursday at 10:00 a.m. for final action.
