EDC reports helmet grant, recommends website refresh and coordinates trash pickup

Louisburg — The Louisburg Economic Development Committee (EDC) reported on April 8 that the town will receive 100 bicycle helmets through a grant and recommended steps to distribute them and raise downtown activity. The committee also urged the town to pursue a website redesign and discussed coordination for a state DOT trash pickup on April 26.

An EDC committee member told the council the helmets could be distributed during a coordinated event such as a bike rodeo or National Night Out in partnership with police and local bike shops. "It was the suggestion of the group that possibly coordinating ... maybe coordinating a national night out with the police and have a bike rodeo," the EDC member said.

The committee suggested issuing a request for proposals for a web designer to update the town website, which contains outdated material and broken links. The EDC member said a request for proposals would clarify cost and scope and help present up-to-date information for prospective residents and businesses.

The committee also discussed the state DOT's planned April 26 trash pickup and coordinating volunteer teams; a council member asked whether the town notice could be included in utility bills and noted social-media posts had not reached everyone.
