The Monroe City Council adopted an ordinance on April 8 declaring the property at 205 East Pfeiffer Street unfit for human habitation and ordering that the dwelling be repaired, altered, improved or demolished.
Planning staff presented the item (previously tabled from February), citing the valuation and the cost estimate: staff reported the assessed value of the structure at about $34,000 while the estimated cost to repair the building exceeded $74,000 — more than half the structure’s value, the threshold staff cited for declaring a structure dilapidated. The property owner told staff the February prospective sale did not close and the property remains unsold.
The council moved to adopt the ordinance and the motion passed by hand/voice vote. The action directs building‑code staff to proceed with administrative steps tied to the ordinance — which may include securing the structure, abatement or demolition if required — and to notify the property owner of the required options and timelines.
