Moab staff: Suwannee Park all‑abilities playground nearly complete, ribbon‑cutting planned

Moab City staff told the City Council on April 8 that construction of the new all‑abilities playground at Suwannee Park is essentially complete and that crews expect final surfacing to be installed next week.

The update came from a city staff member identified in the meeting as Patrick, who said “they're about 90% done, building the playground structure itself” and that contractor crews would finish the structure by Monday and the surfacing contractor was scheduled to work the following Wednesday. Patrick described the facility as “an all abilities playground,” noting wide access ramps to accommodate wheelchair users, a rubberized surface, adaptive swings and other accessible features.

Council members asked about physical access and a grand‑opening date. Patrick said the city will pour concrete from the west‑end parking area by the pool to the park to provide wheelchair access and that a small pad will be poured in a corner of the park; that work was scheduled for the coming week. He told the council he and staff are “looking at probably sometime mid‑May” for a ribbon‑cutting, likely on a Saturday.

Council members also discussed signage recognizing funding for the project. Patrick said the city will add wrap‑tax signage — including a banner currently on the fence and plans for plaques or signage on benches throughout the park — to acknowledge the funding source.

The presentation included photos of the structures and shade installations; staff reminded the council that the site remains an active construction zone until surfacing and final walkthroughs are complete.

City staff did not propose an action for the council to vote on at this meeting; the project update concluded with council thanks to staff and the contractor.
