Finance Committee recommends most CPC Article 10 items but unanimously opposes 17 Woodbury Lane shutters funding

The Acton Finance Committee reviewed the Community Preservation Committee's (CPC) proposed warrant Article 10 list of reservation and project requests and voted to recommend the package of items A through U with one exception: the committee unanimously voted to not recommend subsection M, a request for funding for 17 Woodbury Lane (shutters replacement and hardscaping).

Jim Coleman, chair of the CPC, presented the list of projects and said the CPC recommended funding most projects but had held several for discussion. Several members of the public and CPC discussed individual items during the meeting. The committee held some items for further questions, and two items were specifically held earlier in the presentation: the disc golf proposal (B) was discussed at length and a number of members raised questions about the $40,000 price for six holes; the committee asked Recreation to follow up on course size and maintenance. The disc golf motion to not recommend at the price proposed was put to a vote but did not carry.

Regarding 17 Woodbury Lane (subsection M), the committee discussed past Town Meeting votes, federal earmark funding claims, and whether the project should proceed when Town Meeting earlier had rejected a larger project. CPC members said the CPC recommended shutters and hardscape but not plantings; the committee voted to not recommend the subsection M funding to the warrant (unanimous roll‑call).

On other CPC items the committee took a single motion to recommend articles A–U with exception of M; the motion passed on roll call. The committee asked CPC and project proponents to return with details where they had outstanding questions (for example, disc golf scope and pricing, and clarifications on some Historic Resource proposals). The Finance Committee will publish its recommendations in the warrant materials.
