Airport project staff reported the taxi-lane expansion and apron reconstruction designs are complete and out to bid. Bids opened the week of the meeting; staff expected to have bid results by Wednesday and noted paving and base-course work were currently ahead of schedule on a related project.
Staff told the board that federal grant applications must be submitted to secure FAA funding and that the application process requires county commission signoff. Because bidders need timely award notices to schedule summer paving when temperatures are suitable, staff asked whether the board could expedite review and forwarding of grant application paperwork to the county commission. Board members discussed holding a special meeting or using staff/administrative channels to submit preliminary grant paperwork while final contract awards are pending.
Staff said taxiway F (a separate schedule) is not yet eligible for federal funding but will be bid so it can be shovel-ready for other sources, including a potential CIB (Community Impact Board) application. The board discussed phasing and coordination with businesses (notably skydiving operations) to limit disruption during construction and emphasized contractor coordination to leave temporary borrow areas in a safe, flat condition.
Ending: Staff will prepare application materials as soon as bids are analyzed and seek either a special board meeting or administrative routing so the county commission can sign grant applications promptly; staff will coordinate with tenants and contractors to minimize business disruption during construction.
