Resident urges design-focused approach for West Midtown development

Poole said he had attended a meeting of property owners in the undeveloped West Midtown area and raised concerns based on prior apartment projects, noting community turmoil when projects did not include storefronts or active ground-floor uses. He suggested examples from Walters Creek and Frisco where developments included storefronts at street corners, fitness rooms intended for storefront use and apartments above retail, with parking in the middle.
Poole said he did not oppose apartments in principle but urged planning staff to consider design standards that encourage storefronts and mixed-use deployment as future redevelopment or zoning changes proceed.
Council took note of the comments during the Citizens Forum; no action was taken at the meeting.
