Georgetown approves interlocal agreement to join Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter

Council Member Parrs, who asked that item 5L be pulled from the consent agenda for discussion and said she serves on the animal shelter board, thanked staff and urged volunteers to help. "I hope that you will consider volunteering at the WilCo shelter," Parrs said, adding that both the Georgetown and county shelters have been full and will need volunteer support.
Misty Valenta, executive director of the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, and April Hoy, Georgetown's animal services manager and assistant public works director, were acknowledged by council and staff for their roles in the transition. The council moved to approve item 5L; a motion to approve was seconded and the chair said, "All in favor? All right. That passes." The council then returned to executive session.
City staff described the interlocal as the formal step to incorporate Georgetown into the county regional shelter after earlier planning, and said the transition has involved city staff, shelter staff and volunteers.
