Erin Avalos, who said she lives at 1005 Newport Boulevard, used the public-comment period to announce her candidacy for League City Council Position 5 and to tell the council she would prioritize resident input.
Avalos said she is a working mother of four and that her decision to run was motivated by a past council meeting she attended, when she recalled a councilmember saying residents should be allowed to vote on an issue and another responding, "We're here now," which she said "rubbed me the wrong way." Avalos said she does not claim to know everything but pledged to learn, listen and ask questions if elected.
Avalos said this meeting would be the only one she could attend in person this month because of a prior obligation but added, "If elected for city council position 5, I am all in and will dedicate the necessary time and effort to fulfill the responsibilities of the position." She asked voters to consider her commitment to listening and representing community interests.
