Bexar County Commissioners Court on April 8 approved a delivery order to CWCDW Government LLC under the Texas Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS 230105) for a Cisco hyperconverged hardware refresh and a three‑year Nutanix support agreement totaling up to $2,210,073.88.
Mark Gager, Information Technology, told the court the county’s core on‑premises infrastructure supporting servers at the Emergency Operations Center and the county’s main data center is at end‑of‑life; firmware and security updates will no longer be supported after September, increasing security and reliability risk. The purchase replaces the hardware and migrates virtual server management from VMware to Nutanix in part to control rising VMware licensing costs after an industry acquisition and price increases.
Commissioners asked whether the county can extend life cycle or negotiate longer warranties; IT responded that typical firmware and server lifecycles are five to seven years and the county negotiates the longest support practical but must replace equipment when vendors end support. The court approved the contract and emphasized the purchase is critical to avoiding a potential countywide service outage.
