Hurricane staff told the council the community center needs near‑term attention, with the roof as the immediate priority, and outlined planning for a new indoor pool, expanded recreation programming and facility staffing.
Program coordinator Tiffany and other staff said repeated interior leaks and damaged ceiling tiles indicate the building requires a substantive roofing remedy rather than repeated spot repairs. "The roof's gotta be fixed first," Tiffany said, explaining that interior renovations are difficult while roof leaks persist.
Staff also reported ongoing work on a pool replacement project and said they will visit a Southern Nevada facility to evaluate a retractable or aluminum roof option that could let the city use the pool year‑round while still offering an outdoor feel in warm months. Staff noted they are pursuing external grants and a shovel‑ready package for outdoor‑rec funding and said they would reapply once supporting engineering materials are complete.
Recreation programming proposals included a kids' mixed-activity club (Legos, esports, music) and a proposed ukulele club; staff emphasized low unit costs and a pilot approach for new offerings. For sports facilities, staff asked the council to consider a full‑time gym/facilities manager to coordinate tournaments, field scheduling and youth programming as the city grows the court inventory.
Staff also discussed equipment and storage logistics related to hosting events — for example, wrestling and floor‑hockey mats and gym storage solutions — and said some capital funds are available for concrete and other deferred maintenance on the south side of the community center.
Council members asked staff to pursue roof repairs as a priority and to return with refined cost estimates and proposed timelines.
