Assembly committee advances three measures in work session, including fuel‑tax and nuclear testing resolution

Vice Chair Carter moved the amendment and do‑pass motion; Assemblymember Gurr seconded. The committee next advanced Assembly Bill 530, a bill that revises the implementation of certain annual fuel tax increases in counties with populations of 700,000 or more. Latham said the bill revises start and end dates for board actions to effectuate automatic increases; the committee accepted an amendment proposed by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada. Vice Chair Carter moved the amendment and do‑pass motion; Assemblymember Wynne seconded. Assemblymember Dickman said he remained troubled that the bill “takes away the vote of the people,” but he said he would vote to move the bill out of committee and “reserve my right to change on the floor.” The motion carried and the chair said he would handle the floor statement for the measure.
Finally, the committee amended and passed Assembly Joint Resolution 13, a resolution urging the federal government to maintain the moratorium on explosive nuclear weapons testing. The amendment expands historical context, removes a clause that referenced the Nevada National Security Site specifically, and expands the federal officials to whom the resolution will be sent. Vice Chair Carter moved the amendment and do‑pass motion; Assemblymember Karas seconded. The motion carried and the chair assigned the floor statement to Assemblymember Dahlia.
