Commission signs bridge payments and moves to create road-project sales tax fund

Separately, the commission approved payment of an invoice (invoice 54924, billing statement No. 6) in the amount of $56,640.48 for inspection services from Cook Flats (listed as inspection services to be charged to the Special Bridge fund). The motion to pay the inspection invoice passed by voice vote.
In a related budget discussion, staff and commissioners discussed the county’s recently implemented Road Project Sales Tax (effective Jan. 1) and reported that the county had not yet created a dedicated account in the county financial system to receive and manage those receipts. Staff recommended a resolution to create an account in the county’s financial system (CIC) with an interest‑bearing checking account to allow funds to accumulate for larger projects and to serve as a cushion for possible overruns on major projects such as the 59 Highway bridge. Commissioners agreed to prepare a resolution, and staff said they would present it at the next meeting.
Staff noted that some reimbursements and project receipts had arrived late in the fiscal year and that creating a dedicated account would keep the funds delineated for road projects; commissioners discussed using the account for larger countywide overlays, bridges or multi‑mile projects and agreed the fund should accumulate before disbursing for major projects. A motion to prepare and bring a resolution to the next meeting was directed to staff.
