The board discussed an inventory and badging update for county vehicles and asked departments to help verify physical vehicles, VINs and the presence or absence of updated county logos.
Commissioner Barnett introduced the item and said the county needs hands-on verification for every vehicle in the fleet and that some vehicles still carry an older logo. County staff described a process by which department heads would verify vehicles (VIN, mileage, photos) and feed that information into the county’s inventory or cost-accounting system. Staff said there are roughly 38 county vehicles under active inventory control and estimated that around 85 vehicles in a broader count may still require a new logo, with per-vehicle costs for new logo installation estimated at roughly $200 for installation (and higher if full removal of old decals is needed).
Board members asked about the workload and whether departments already maintain VIN and inventory lists; staff said the county does maintain VIN records in its cost-accounting system but wanted a positive physical verification tied to photographs for insurance and accountability. The board agreed to have departments verify vehicles and to return with a cleaned inventory and a plan to apply new badging to vehicles identified as needing it.
