Yamhill planning commission focuses on downtown identity, code updates and economic opportunity analysis

The Yamhill Planning Commission on March 17 discussed how to translate recent City Council priorities into planning work, with a primary focus on downtown beautification, defining an "authentic Yamhill" and pursuing an economic opportunity analysis to inform business recruitment and potential development on an industrial parcel east of town.

Commission chair Sean Freilinger said the meeting was intended to align the commission’s work with council goals and to identify topics the commission could take on. Freilinger introduced a proposed joint work session with city council and the Economic Development Committee to coordinate downtown design and code changes.

A resident who identified herself only as Patty urged officials to study why businesses have left Yamhill, saying, "There's been a whole lot of businesses over the last, I'm going to say 10 years, that have come to town or they've been here, and for whatever reason, they leave." Patty asked the commission to seek information that could help retain and attract businesses.
