Committee advances CPAs licensure modernization to expand pipeline and interstate mobility

Joe Rosenbaum, a board member and past president of the Board of Accountancy, told the committee the current 150-hour requirement often necessitates a costly fifth year of college and that the bill would restore more straightforward education-and-experience pathways used previously.
Jason Fox of the California Society of CPAs told members the bill would modernize mobility rules and help address a growing demand for CPAs nationwide, preserve consumer protections, and expand access for candidates from underrepresented or low-income backgrounds.
The Board of Accountancy, the California Society of CPAs and national accounting firms testified in support; the committee recorded the motion to pass AB 1175 as amended to the Committee on Appropriations.
