Lancaster Public Works and AV Walls program receive statewide and regional honors

Lancaster Public Works and the city's Antelope Valley Walls mural program received awards recognizing technology and cultural stewardship at the Lancaster City Council meeting.
Public Works staff told the council the department and IT registered more than 63,000 assets in a new asset management system and created an open citizen request monitoring hub. Staff said the system consolidated inspection logs and multiple databases, enables GPS locating of assets, preventive maintenance schedules, and improved tracking of fully-burdened maintenance costs. Public Works said the project earned the American Public Works Association High Desert Branch 2024 Best Use of Technology award.
Parks and recreation staff announced that the Antelope Valley Walls mural program received the California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) Award of Excellence in the arts and cultural services category. CPRS committee co-chair Stephanie Molina addressed the council and described the Antelope Valley Walls program as transforming public spaces through local and international artist collaborations, community workshops and outreach and noted the program was one of nine winners in its category and one of 135 applicants overall.
Staff emphasized that the projects were collaborative efforts across city departments and community partners. Council members congratulated staff and volunteers for the recognition.
