Town council approves first reading to formalize access easement for Cordillo Courts communities

The Town Council of Hilton Head Island on Tuesday approved first reading of an ordinance to authorize execution and delivery of an ingress-and-egress easement across town-owned property to provide formal access to the Cordillo Courts and The Hedges communities.
Town staff said the town originally acquired the parcel in February 2002 and that access to the adjacent neighborhoods had existed informally for years. The ordinance would document and legalize that access, staff members said. The council approved the ordinance on a voice/hand count vote, 7-0, with the motion to send the item to second reading on May 20.
The measure was presented to council after the Community Service and Public Safety Committee unanimously recommended forwarding the item. Staff displayed a map showing the town-owned parcel and the locations of Cordillo Courts (referred to in materials as Sea Cabin 1 and Sea Cabin 2) on either side of the property. Council members did not request changes during the discussion, and no members of the public signed up to speak on the item.
If approved at second reading, the ordinance will be followed by a separate sign-agreement resolution that also was recommended by committee, staff said. The town indicated the easement would be recorded after final council approval.
Council action: First reading approved, vote 7-0. Second reading scheduled for May 20.
