Alva board swears in new member, elects officers in unanimous reorganization

The Alva Public Schools Board of Education on April 8 administered the oath of office to its newest member, Paul Barton, and then reorganized its leadership, electing Karen Kane as board president, Shane Hanson as vice president, Kevin Pingleton as clerk and Paul Barton as deputy clerk.
Barton was sworn in during the meeting; the oath was read by the district official administering it and Barton repeated the required pledges of office. Board members publicly thanked outgoing president Mrs. McDermott for her service and leadership before opening nominations.
A board member nominated the slate of officers, another member seconded the motion, and board members voted aloud. The roll call recorded affirmative responses from Pingleton, McDermott, Kane, Hanson, Barton and other members present, resulting in a unanimous approval of the reorganization.
The board did not alter its committee assignments or announce other officer changes during the meeting.
The reorganization occurred near the start of the regular meeting after the clerk certified that meeting notice had been posted according to Oklahoma open-meeting requirements.
